Im blessed to have just purchased a new 24' Toyota Camry SE. The last year of this particular generation and naturally aspirated. I hope that this will be the last car I ever have to buy seeing that im nearly 52 years old. I still cannot quite wrap my mind around not having to worry about doing major repairs for the next 8-10 years. I used to work in a shop back when I graduated from high school and customers were either great customers or really shady people in general. One thing I know that I love about Toyota is their top down approach to quality, in both manufacturing and design. The 8th generation Camry has all kinds of room under the hood for doing repairs. Thanks for the entertaining videos, definitely make some service videos on any Toyotas that may come through your shop.

Where can we get a Aisin transmission repair manual like the one you had in your video? Also, you'd probably be surprised at just how many people would enjoy watching you repsir the valve body step by step. I know that I would definitely watch. If you ever get the chance to rebuild a UB80E 8 speed Aisin transmission, please think about making an extensive repair video. Thanks bub and hope you and your family have a great Christmas.

Good on ya for posting this video with mishaps included. This is more like what happens to all of us when we work on our vehicles. I'm excited to see part 2 of this rebuild, and I'm looking forward to seeing you keep another Toyota alive and on the road.

@ohioxboxcollection4838 strawman arguments are useless. This guy sees and works on transmissions on a daily basis. If a professional transmission technician says that cvt transmissions are inherently bad, then they're bad. Why do people with zero skills in rebuilding transmissions think they know more than the professionals who rebuild transmissions every day?

I went out and purchased an ATSG manual for my transmission. If anything ever goes wrong with it, I plan on buying the rebuild kit and rebuilding my transmission on my own. I know that I will most likely have to buy or rent a few specialty tools, but it will all be worth it in the end! Thanks for making all of these informative videos, Eddie!

Get a Toyota, the quality is unmatched and repair costs are extremely low. Especially if you buy a certified pre-owned Toyota or new. Some good advice that I heard a long time ago was never buy the early year models of any specific generation.

As I stated in my earlier comment, I just got a 24' Camry, do you think it would be wise to change out the transmission cooler ever 100k miles? I figure the Camry and the Rav4 are similar in set-up and I just want to make this car last as long as I possibly can. Thanks for the video

@ohioxboxcollection4838 you publicly contradicting a professional transmission mechanic is the equivalent to you contradicting your doctor. If you do not professionally rebuild transmissions, then why would you publicly try to disprove someone who does? Not to mention, a modern gear driven transmission can be repaired. Parts are readily available all over the world. We cannot even get the internal parts needed to repair today's cvt transmissions.

Anyone who works on cars knows that cvt transmissions have an exponentially higher fail rate than geared transmissions! Cvt transmissions absolutely suck and are inferior to geared transmissions in every way! They do not shift like real transmissions. They are impossible to get parts for, and the only reason Toyota cvts are better is because they actually have a real launch GEAR! Dude, if you think cvt transmissions are just as reliable as geared transmissions, then you're either extremely naive or intentionally blind! This guy works on transmissions for a living, he's a professional! The metal to metal contact made between the belt and transmission drum is 100% guaranteed to wear out the transmissions before 200k miles. We have Toyota/Aisin transmissions with over half a million miles on them, and they are still going strong. There is no cvt transmission, does not matter what manufacturer, that will last 300k miles, none! If a professional transmission rebuilder cannot get parts for the cvt transmissions he sees, then what is joe public going to do?

@ohioxboxcollection4838 the cvt transmission design is inherently bad due to the metal to metal contact being made 24/7. There is nothing that can stop those metal drive belts from eventually scarring up the drums. The metal is constantly dragging across the drums, one of the two will eventually get scarred and as soon as that happens, the transmission will start to shutter or slip.

I'm not saying it won't get better in the future, but as of right now, cvt transmissions fail at an exponentially higher rate. You can actually go out and purchase everything you need to rebuild a geared tranmission, this cannot be said about cvts. You know why, it's because the manufacturers cannot keep up with the demand for these components. Just look into how much it costs to repair a cvt as opposed to a geared tranmission. If you cannot see that the metal to metal contact that happens 24/7 inside a cvt transmission is inherently bad, then our conversation is useless.

@ohioxboxcollection4838 If you knew anything at all about Toyota cvt transmissions, you'd know that they are actually more of a hybrid gear/belt driven transmission. Toyota Ecvt transmissions actually have a take-off gear. So when you initially take off, the Toyota transmissions use a gear instead of the belt. This is not so in the overwhelming majority of cvt transmissions. However, even with a Toyota cvt, if you stomp the gas while going 60 down the highway, that puts stress on the belt/drum configuration and eventually will scar the metal. It's just not feasible to expect the internal components of a cvt transmission to hold out for 300k miles, precisely because of the metal to metal contact. Doesn't matter how often you change your cvt transmission fluid, the metal will eventually wear out and fail.

Sure, if you baby a cvt transmission, then you'll get more mileage out of it, but when, not if, when it fails, you will be forced to replace the entire transmission! Your transmission is irrelevant, we are talking about the design aspect and what happens in the real world! Every time you have to stomp on that cvt transmission, it could be the last, and when it scars the metal, it's done. No amount of transmission fluid will stop it from shuttering/slipping. I kinda figured you were an offended cvt owner. You people can not handle the facts of the matter.

@ohioxboxcollection4838 just know that every time you jam the gas, getting onto the highway could be your last because that metal belt and drum inside your cvt transmission IS wearing out. Those of us driving geared transmissions can always get new gears or clutch kits, you'll be replacing the entire transmission. What is it about metal to metal contact do you not understand?

There's a reason for that! You can buy the internal components of a geared tranmission anywhere on the planet. They are easily rebuilt! You do not have to replace the entire transmission! So if my 8 speed transmission ever gives up, I can go out and purchase a rebuild kit and manual for my transmission for a few hundred dollars. You can not do that with a cvt transmission! If your cvt transmission goes out, you're replacing the entire transmission! You did not listen to anything that this professionally trained transmission technician had to say! Either that or you're just too thick or butthurt to understand what he said.
