287k mile timing chain & guides are a great thing! The cam phaser pin must've just worked itself loose after 287k miles. Then it lodged itself inside the phaser, snapping the bolt? Great video and im happy to hear that your wife enjoyed the positive feedback.

The pin came loose and got lodged inside the cam phaser, breaking the cam bolt. No metallurgical in cam bolt. It would have shown up much sooner than 287k miles.

@paul_moir the pin jammed the cam phaser, causing the bolt to snap over time. It was probably running horrible for awhile and then it finally gave way, which allowed the engine to go out of time.

@paulmoir4452 yeah, somehow that pin worked itself loose then eventually wallowed out the hole that kept it in place. Then it must've wedged itself into one of the small crevices inside the cam phaser. The phaser bolt could only handle so much stress, after awhile it just became too weak and it finally snapped. If you notice, Eric was able to turn the part of the bolt that was still inside of the phaser out by hand, which means it was no longer torqued. That pin was probably out of place for quite some time. Once it came out of where it was wedged, all of the stresses that would normally be held in check by that pin were then put onto that cam phaser bolt. If you look, it looked like the bolt started cracking from the outside in. The outside half of the bolt shaft was oil soaked(darker in color) and the bolts center was still fresh steel.

@Google_Is_Evil did you pay attention to the video at all? The hole that the pin sat in was wallowed out! That allowed the pin to work itself out, and then get itself wedged in the cam phaser, breaking the bolt. Do better

@oluskloc when the pin isnt there, the cam phaser is no longer in proper motion and can cause the phaser bolt to back out and become damaged.
