@pault6533 oil is cheap, engines are not. A 6 quart case of Toyota oil cost $40, $9 for oem filter.

Thank you Eric for tearing one of these down, ive not seen a single video about these engines! I just purchased a 2024 Camry SE and the car is a dream to drive. These engines have great heat efficiency, I can turn the car off and come back 4 hours later and the engine will still be warm. Change your antifreeze every 2 years people, it starts to get acidic after 30k miles.

@pault6533 if you have a late model car, oil changes are inexpensive.

Yeah, Toyota seems to do a top down approach when it comes to design. They think about servicing when they design these engines.

@jmabs5096 Toyota OEM oil has twice the amount of dry lubrication additives compared to the next closest competitor. There's a great engine oil analysis video here on YouTube in which a guy sends off samples of new Toyota OEM oil, Mobil 1, Penzoil, and Amsoil to the lab to be tested. Toyota engineers know exactly what they are doing. All engine oils are not created equal. The thumbnail for the above video is the Engine Oil analysis sheet. The guy has a bit of an accent. All engine oil manufacturers add different additive packages, and according to the lab analysis, Toyota OEM oil has twice the amount of the dry lubrication additive Molybdenum.

@RogerM88 Toyota uses Mobil 1 oil but Toyota engineers designed the additive packages that are added to the oil. Watch the video I suggested and quit trying to win arguments on topics that you know nothing about!
5
@RogerM88 the channel name is ImpalaLFX13. The video is titled "Mobil vs Toyota OEM vs Penzoil vs Amsoil 0w-16". Toyota has 10x the amount of molybdenum in their OEM oil. Molybdenum is one of, if not the best, dry lubrication additives known. Like I said before, Toyota engineers know exactly what they are doing.

@ferrumignis thats funny that you should ask, I just received a flyer in the mail from the dealership where I purchased my 24 Camry SE, $39.95 oil lube, and filter plus free multi point inspection. As someone stated in an earlier comment, if you're paying $100 for a simple oil change, you're getting ripped off. Toyota Direct Ohio
5
@ferrumignis you can get your oil change at the dealership for $50. Please stop commenting on things you know nothing about. Plus, it takes 10 minutes to change your oil, do it yourself so you know that it's done right!

What are some of the signs of one going bad?
4
@DJ-sr9yq exactly, I just watched a video with one of the head engineers/engine builders at Nissan. He says to change your oil every 3000-3500 miles. He says that's actually when today's modern synthetic oils start to break down and engine wear begins.

Toyota oem oil has 10x the dry lubrication additive molybdenum compared to the next closest competitor. There's a great oil analysis video here on YouTube. It's titled Toyota OEM oil vs Mobil 1 vs Penzoil vs Amsoil. The guy sends off 4 samples of new oil to the lab for analysis. Toyota engineers designed this oil specifically for these engines. Plus, you can get a 6 quart case for right around $40 through the Toyota app.

That's great news, I have a 24' Camry SE. Do you think neglecting to change the antifreeze could have been the first issue with this particular engine in the video? I'm loving my new Camry, it drives perfectly down the road. If i had to do it over, I may have gotten the V6. Toyota's V6 engines are just as reliable as their 4cyl engines from what I've heard. The only negative would be gas mileage, if I had the 6 cylinder, I'd get 20mpg because of the way I drive on the freeway!
3
@royferntorp Toyota suggests changing it every 60k miles. All antifreeze gets acidic over time, and can eat away at the internals of the cooling system. Toyota also suggests replacing the EGR valve. You could actually clean out the EGR, but I think I'll replace mine with new.
3
@tastyautomotive5619 another thing, I've heard from a few different people that the long life Toyota antifreeze turns extremely acidic once it starts to get upwards of 30k miles, could this damage the electric water pump, or is this true at all?
3
@RogerM88 irrelevant to the topic at hand
2
@royferntorp From what I've seen and Toyota actually suggests is to change the EGR valve every 60k miles, Im personally going to change the EGR cooler as well. They deal with extremely high temp exhaust gases, it's impossible for them to last forever.
2
Whats the first sign of one going out? Just purchased a 24 Camry
2
@scottmaguire8445 yeah I was just curious but if Toyota antifreeze is not changed, it becomes more and more acidic as it ages.
2
@scottmaguire8445 Toyota suggests having the coolant system flushed every 30k miles or two years, whichever comes first! The antifreeze becomes acidic and can damage the internal components of your cars cooling system.
2
@RogerM88 if you refuse to watch the oil analysis video, your comments are useless and irrelevant. The fact is, Toyota OEM oil has 10x the dry lubrication additive molybdenum in its additive package and it cost the exact same as any other oil. Toyota engineers designed the additive packages that are in their oils to match what they used when designing their engines, I'll stick with the oil Toyota suggests to use. Go ahead and keep putting Walmart brand oil in your car, it's your choice.
1
@Mike-ht1ou Toyota engineers know exactly what they are doing.
1
@RFJersey I'll stick with the engineers at Toyota, not some random dolt in the youtube comment sections pretending he knows what molybdenum is. The lab results I've seen says differently, the same molybdenum was found and measured in all samples.
1
@pokefan5022 if you go through the app it's $39.95 through the dealership closest to my place. Look around at different dealerships around your location. Yeah, the oil analysis video is a great video. I was planning on using Amsoil in my 24' Toyota Camry SE, strictly because of the amount of molybdenum in it's additive package. Then I happened across dude's oil analysis video. Those Toyota engineers know what they are doing, did you happen to find the video? The screenshot for the video is the paper report from the lab that was sent back to him. The narrator has a bit of a Spanish accent.
1
@pokefan5022 yeah Toyota uses Mobil oil but the oem oil has a completely different additive package than Mobil 1 has. Also, you cannot purchase the oil through the app because they do not ship it, but if you take a screenshot, the dealership will honor the listed price. Also, if you do not select a specific dealership through the app, you will not receive the discounted price. Change the zip code to your zip code and then look at the dealerships around your location.
1
@FrankySilverFace I don't think that was that was the A25A-FXS/FKS engine, I believe that was the older 4cyl out of a 09' Camry, but I could be mistaken. What is the specific title of the video.
1
@tastyautomotive5619 thanks, will the scan tool show anything in particular?
1
@tastyautomotive5619 you're wrong, and I've seen multiple master Toyota techs say to change your antifreeze at 30-50k miles. As the antifreeze ages, it becomes more and more acidic and can damage the internal parts of your cooling system! They now say to change your oil every 10k miles, do you believe that as well? Stop commenting on things you clearly know nothing about. My manual says to flush the coolant system every 30k miles or every two years, whichever comes first. Just because you read the side of an antifreeze bottle or Google searched something, doesn't make what you say correct!
1
@tastyautomotive5619 Toyota suggests changing your antifreeze every 30k miles or two years, whichever comes first. Also, they say you can go 10k miles on a oil change, do you honestly believe that too?
1
@tastyautomotive5619 ask any honest mechanic, you need to quit basing your beliefs off of Google searches! I pretty sure the head engineer at Nissan knows wtf he's talking about!
