  1. A lot of people do not know about removing one of the shims that come installed from the factory. The outer plate wears and creates a gap too wide therefore not allowing the magnet to pull the plate in. If the plate is wore too much, the heat of the engine will cause the metal to expand just enough to cause the plate not to engage. Did you check the gap prior to diagnosing it as a worn out magnet?
