Its pretty much agreed that the hikers accidently wondered into a soviet weapons testing. their cameras last image was a flash, their injuries were conclusive with compression and concussion damage along with chemical burns, all having radioactivity. not to mention it was the military that sent a team out to recover them/find them first and swept it under the rug very quickly. just a case of the wrong place at the wrong time. they probably got hit by a small yield nuke testing being conducted in secret by the Soviet Union.

  12. Intel guy here. most people don't realize just how bad Disease is on the battlefield. Rabie's, 2nd hand Prion Diseases, as animals eat dead bodies and then may or may not get trapped and cooked by desperate soldiers, dysentery, and even tape worms from underboiled water. there is a lot of diseases you can get in the combat zone.
