No one questioned the right for Australia to seek for alliances, and change its strategy. That's why the person here does not talk about that.
The issue is, at least for the EU, the way France was played by the US and Australia.
Both "allies" should have discussed the matter with France beforehand. That's what "ally" means, or better call it "vassal".
The other issue, for EU members that sell arms, is that the US can, tomorrow, end a contract between foreign countries at will, without even talking to its allies. This is not fair competition.
Imagine that, tomorrow, Canada government anounces that they will buy F-35 as the USA proposed it at dirt cheap price, the Swedes of SAAB cannot follow?
It is more or less the case at the moment, the US selling their protection as part of military deals, but the EU wants to put some limits here.
Furthermore, most military manufacturers or subcontractors are private companies that have factories all over the EU. For the submarines, for example, the diesel engines were supposed to be manufactured in Germany. So, not only France, but Germany is impacted.
