I don't think religiosity increases because of war. European countries never experienced that even after the bloodiest wars in history, the Great War a d WWII. On the contrary, there are more secular than ever. What about Rwanda? I was under the impression that people were quitting 'soft ' religions, like Catholicism for more 'hardcore' ones...

Dr James Tabor thinks that Roman authorities may have put the corpse in a nearby tomb, so as it does not hang for Passover, and it was later removed and disposed off. That would explain the empty tomb.

Luke reports what he could find about Jesus. He was probably not the one making things up and was simply reporting the traditions of his current of Christianity.

We have absolutely no evidence that people visited Jesus tomb 2000 years ago. On the contrary, Jerusalem was destroyed in 70 and 135, the Jews expelled, a new city built. The sites were « rediscovered » 500 years later.

Jesus brothers are listed in the Gospels, Paul of Tarsus cites « James, the brother of the Lord ». And Josephus, the Jewish historian says that this James was Jesus brother. Sources in the video. And the word used in Greek, adelphos, actually means brother, not cousin or brethren (there are other words for that).

No. It would be more like a priest or bigot of some sort and a Mexican. The Mexican would help, while the priest would not. That’s what I understand from this interpretation. The Gospels were based on oral and/or written traditions, that probably date back to years following Jesus death, according to several scholars. There is certainly some kernel of truth. Now, for the tomb, there are only conjectures. Was the corpse put in a mass grave, as was common in the time? In a nearby tomb so it does not stay for Passover, as Dr Jams Tabor suggests? In the tomb of a rich Jew, as the gospels say? We cannot have any certainty.

@ericjohnson6665 they don’t agree on the context, and and they contradict on what Joseph, Mary and baby Jesus do after. It is no more a « detail » than Jesus being born in Bethlehem. They simply cannot be both right. But they can be both wrong.

For some workers working in another town for a limited time, like masons or peddlers, why not. But Mary would still be in Bethlehem or, at least, their home and family would be there. Going to a city where your grand, grand, grand … parents lived 1000 years ago, no way. Ancient texts are full of myths and magic and nobody really cared. Science and facts were not as important as today in antiquity.

We don't know to what extent the Gospels are reliable. It may be the case Jesus never talked to a roman, or maybe through a translator only.

Crucifixion cross was made of 2 parts, patibulum, the horizontal part the poor guy carried before execution, and the stipes, vertical part that probably stayed in place. T shape . The top part of Christian cross was maybe added for the INRI panel, according to some scholars. It is just an hypothesis, as it can be just some later addition, to differentiate it from the ankh or standard crucifixion.

Do you understand what "church tradition" means? Do you really think serious biblical scholars just Google it when asked the same question? The Gospels are not signed. The names attached are Church Fathers best guess, based on no historical evidence. And "anonymous" does not mean "unreliable"

There are hundreds of Christian’s denominations. No wonder they squabble over everything supposedly remaining from Jesus time. No wonder Christian’s feel uncomfortable rubbing their shoulders with « heretics ». It is the same with the Mecca. Not all Muslims worship the same and authorities have to enforce strict rules to avoid troubles. It is not easy to accept others.😊

Thé word used in Greek is « brother » (Adelphos). There is another word for « cousin ».

@Ciprian-IonutPanait according to Paul of Tarsus, Peter and James « the brother of the Lord » are in charge of Jerusalem « church ». So, it seems from that sentence that James is not some fellow Christian brother, in a figurative sense, but an actual blood brother. Otherwise, it would not be « the » brother and Peter, as a Christian, would be included. This is confirmed by Josephus, the Jewish historian, who talks of James, the brother of Jesus « called the Christ ». So, sorry, but even Paul agree that James was actually Jesus brother, and this is confirmed by an extra biblical source.

@Ciprian-IonutPanait you « disagree » with what? These are facts. And there is no indication anywhere that » Iacub » was Ieshua half brother. That’s just speculations.

@Ciprian-IonutPanait i don’t have to fix all the discrepancies and contradictions in the Bible. However. Mary was supposed to be married to Joseph. So she does not need a « son » to help her, unless Joseph was not in Jerusalem, and the other disciples fled and only the « disciple He loved » ( who may not be John* btw) was there. Or the story was made up. Anyway. We have three sources attesting the existence of a James* confirming he was Jesus* brother. And one of these is an extra biblical source. So, you can believe whatever you want, from an historical perspective, there is little doubt Jesus had at least one brother. * I use modern English translations of the name. English is not my native language and I don’t know how Hebrew or aramean names translate into English.
