There is no EU « trade war » against Chinese ICEs, HEVs and PHEVs. In fact the EU is more open to Chinese cars than China to European cars (try to import a European car in China…) There are specific tariffs on EVs because some companies were subsidized by the Chinese state, which is against international trading agreements.

@bldomain Teslas sold in the EU are either made in China or Germany. extra tariffs on Teslas made in China is 7.8%. So Tesla is hit too. And extra tariffs varies between manufacturers, based on how they cooperated with EU authorities.

@boxtears EU tariffs are 10%, except for EVs were there are extra duties, that vary depending on the manufacturer. Chinese tariffs on imports are currently 15%.

@shiulai5804 your opinion.

@sed9406 tariffs on imported cars is 15% in China. They were contemplating increasing it on large displacement engine cars.

@Seeker2324 what are you trying to say? Europe is also full of cars imported from foreign countries, Japan, China, Korea… despite tariffs. And the Chinese love German cars and some are rich enough to afford imported cars. It is the same for luxury goods from France. The others are mainly built in China, though.

@Seeker2324 except for premium cars, very few cars are imported in China. Add 15% tariff on a car, freight costs, the fact cars are cheaper in China, and the margin is gone. Most manufacturers build car in China.
