If a tailless design reduces drag, which is a good thing for a bomber, it has a major drawback. Yaw control is paramount for bombing accuracy, hence the large tails on bombers of the time. The US tested some tailless bomber after the war, the YB-35, but it was not successful because of that.

@Wilphart the bombsight at the time used several parameters to calculate when and where to release the bombs. The bomber was supposed to set various parameters on the device, like bombs types, wind, altitude, and keep the target in his sight, correcting the drift due to inacurracies. When stabilized, The autopilot did the rest. It meant that the rudder was supposed to fine tune the heading, while keeping the wings straight, with a stable yaw. Bombers needed large tails to achieve that.
