@mastermind5814 and there is the flaw: the fact that mathematics apply in our universe just show how consistent it is. It may be a "miracle", or simply because it has to be consistent for some unknown reason. Put simply: WLC uses the God of the gaps and "look at the trees!" arguments. For me, inconsistency of the universe would better demonstrate existence of a God or gods, we could see how they interfere with it. Consistency is what logically would be by default, and it demonstrates nothing.

@andrewliggitt universe is driven by very basic laws and constants. Planets, stars, galaxies are subject to gravity and electro forces. They react exactly as they should and we can predict their behaviour, as far as we can measure the forces in play and calculate their effect. If an intelligent force was driving them, they would have either an unpredictable behaviour, or a complex one that cannot come from blind forces. The limited number of forces and constants make that our universe is consistant and a chaos at the same time. The mix of those forces is enough to aggregate gases into stars, that arrange into galaxies, those stars creating complex chemicals, for example. The best analogy I could use is coffee and milk. If you pour some milk in your coffee, you end up with a brown mix where coffee and milk are evenly distributed. That's entropy. But for a moment, you obtained complex moving 3D shapes in your cup with subtle coffee and milk ratios variations, changing constantly, so complex that we cannot really model them . And that with only 2 chemicals and gravity. Try that with some more forces, and you obtain our universe, and life.

@andrewliggitt short answer: we don't know Long answer: we don't know. Maybe the universe, laws, constants are that way because they cannot be another way, maybe a God or gods created it that way, maybe we append to be in the one universe where these laws apply...

@mastermind5814 mathematics work because humans invented them to make sense of our universe. It is so no wonder they work. There are designed for that. For example, the same causes lead to the same effects. Mathematics are just an abstract model of the things that tie causes and effects.

@mastermind5814 I think I disagree with WLC on that point. Math is an abstract construct of our brain. Gravity does not care about math. It applies in a certain way on mass, according to gravity propriety, in our whole universe. We don't know what gravity is, we know only of (some of) its properties, we append to model. Math is descriptive, not prescriptive. Maybe WLC is conflating Math with laws of logic, which, for some reason, are consistant within our universe. Which does not say anything on the why there are.
