  2. It is not as obvious as that. Grippen can supercruise, SH cannot. It means that a Gripen does not have to use a thirsty afterburner when it is called for an interception. For that mission profile, Gripen has probably a better radius than the SH. And SH has 2 engines while Grippen has only 1. This is the reason why the SH has conformal tanks, to compensate for the higher consumption Then, both aircrafts can be equipped with extra tanks, and I don't know if the balance between the war load and fuel is so much better on the SH. Comparing range between "clean" aircrafts makes few sense. Flight refuelling is also an option.

  3. Mirage 2000 is no longer offered. You mean Rafale, I suppose. No. Rafale is a competitor for the german made Eurofighter, and is not compatible with the B61 nuclear bomb either. Germany has two choices : buy US, if they want an aircraft quickly, or adapt the EF to the B61, which will take time.

  4. Les F15/16 sont a la fin de leur developpement. Il ne sera pas possible de faire beaucoup plus avec des plateformes concues dans les annees 70. Utiliser comme base un démonstrateur du début des années 80 comme le F-16XL n'a aucun sens. C'est comme si Dassault démarrait les etudes d'un nouvel appareil à partir du Mirage 4000. Soit les USA achetent la licence d un appareil moderne existant, comme le Grippen ou le KF-21 (je n'y crois pas), soit le congrès accepte de financer les études d un appareil interimaire, mais ça va coûter un bras, soit ils font avec des F-15/16 modernisés jusqu'à ce que le nouvel appareil de "génération 6" soit pret. Je pense que, vu la situation économique actuelle, ils feront traîner les F-15/16. Mais ils sont assez riches pour se payer le développement d un avion intérimaire. Même si un tel avion coûtera à peine moins cher qu'un F-35 et plus cher qu'un Gripen...
