The story I heard is that someone bought a new car from one of the big three car dealers, they bring it home and drive it for 200 miles and the gas gauge hardly moved. They call the dealer who says bring it back to them so they could look at it. So they leave the car there and pick it up later and then find the mileage is back to where it should have been in the first place. They bring it back to the dealer and complain that they are no longer driving 200 miles without hardly moving the gas gauge. The dealer tells the customer says that they have no idea what they are talking about. Another variation is that they bring it back to the dealer who tells them the customer got a prototype car by mistake.
