  1. Despite Christopher and Paulie's best efforts, they let that Russian escape from the Pine Barrens and it's interesting that many consider the Pine Barrens episode as the best ever. Remember that Tony was very concerned that the Russian would come back and spill the beans. I think that the Russian is the one who really done Tony in because just as he was able to escape from the Pine Barrens unseen, he also came in the back entrance of that diner unseen and did Tony in. And as the Italian mob falls in power, it is the Russian mob that starts to rise in power. I believe out of everyone that Tony's crew whacked, the Russian guy is the only one who escaped...and he came back looking for revenge...He was a commando, special forces.
