I remember when just about everyone in the neighborhood worked on their cars. They did oil changes, spark plug changes, fixed the brakes. There was a guy up the street that repaired shoes. Around the block, there was a place where you could have your knives, scissors and hedge clippers sharpened while you waited. Half way up the street there was a machine shop. There were three embroidery shops within 15 minutes of each other. The hardware store and even the pharmacy had tube testers so you could test you the tubes on your radio or TV. There was a TV repair shop 20 minutes away by foot. There were three bakeries all within a 20 minute walk. Some guy used to sell fresh vegetables out of his truck. All that is gone

Well. Back in the really old days, if you were coerced into paying extra for something in order to keep your business running. That was called a shake down and extortion, and that is illegal. And back in the really old days if someone or some company did something to an object that you owned and made it stop working or made it work poorly. That was called sabotage and it was also illegal. People used to go to jail and pay fines for that sort of stuff. But because it's being done under the guise of DRM, it's supposed to be OK? No it isn't.

I'll bet Apple been doing this for a long time, they are just making this public to cover themselves over privacy issues.

Google has a history of abandoning things. Since YouTube supposedly not rmaking money, perhaps Google is making this noise about adblockers as a warning that they intend to sell off YouTube or shut it down. They'll use the adblockers problem as an excuse.
