Probably sees the older ones as "good extensions" of himself (acknowledged product of legitimate relationship) and the youngest as a "bad extension" of himself (the product of his bad act - cheating on his wife, lying to Grizelda), the source of problems and loss of money, possible loss of his wife and other children. Egocentric vision. Now he has destroyed several lives including his own.
