Farage shares with the left a disdain for Tommy as 'beyond the pale' - not part of the chattering classes he belongs to. I also suspect he's envious of what Tommy has achieved and rather threatened by his popularity. But Farage needs to be really careful and rein it in, as you suggest. Tommy, like Trump punching his fist in the air after the assassination attempt, has attained a kind of mythic status, and imprisoning him has made him a martyr. Farage's base are likely to remain extremely loyal to Tommy, and as you say, sneering at him will likely backfire for Farage. Especially after Elon's endorsement of Tommy.

Murray isn't as posh as his voice and demeanour might suggest - he went to an ordinary comprehensive before Oxford. That said, Murray is wise enough not to slander Tommy, and he nails the classism behind the left's hatred of him.

@river5787 I know. But the point is he came from a fairly ordinary background, and I think that's one of the reasons he empathisers with people outside the elite class.

@river5787 He went to a state primary and comprehensive first: "Murray was educated at his local state primary and secondary schools, before going to a comprehensive which had previously been a grammar school. Recalling this experience in 2011, he wrote, "My parents had been promised that the old grammar school standards and ethos remained, but none did. By the time I arrived the school was what would now be described as 'an inner-city sink school', a war zone similar to those many of the children's parents had escaped from."
