  12.  @sreekr  Well, Firstly the comparison was with US and China in military capabilities. Whether or not Chinese citizens will have better lives and whether India will be able to provide decent health care to it's citizens wasn't the topic of discussion. About US worries, advances in software (like AI) can easily be achieved. Hardware is where research takes time. And when US says it's not ready to compete, it means in China's back yard. The South China Sea, not even the second island chain, let alone the third Island Chain. But having said that, your understanding of Economics seems patchy. You seem to believe China is going to achieve all these great things while India can't. Sure, Chinese citizens will have decent lifestyles but so will Indian Citizens. China's economy needs domestic consumption to increase to be able to sustain it's Economic growth because it's export led growth has reached its limits and is only going to reduce from here on out. Not only is it's demographic collapsing but also the current generation don't spend much cause there is no social security. So, China being able to depend on it's own economy for consumption is really doubtful. India, on the other hand, has been a consumption led economy from the very start. India's growth is more sustainable. India will keep growing much after 2050, as well, while China's growth will most likely slowdown. What is China going to do when CCP's legitimacy doesn't come from economic growth as before?.. What will China do to service the huge debt it has amassed to boost it's economy leading to creation of Ghost Cities and infra which no one uses ?? .. What if EU & US diversify out of China, what will China do with it's over capacity? These are some questions which show the problems with the Chinese Economy and it's future prospects of growth. People rarely realise India is exactly where China was 15 years back and will be exactly where China is today 15 years from now. It will take, however, take a huge political will to implement Economic reforms regularly. If the right reforms are attempted, then it's quiet likely that India will surpass China as world's largest Economy sometime in the next 30 years.

  13.  @sreekr  "Economic growth, military capabilities, standard of living are all linked." - Not necessarily. "The ability of China to deal with the pandemic and carry on with economic growth" - Dude, they have an autocratic govt. They are supposed to control the pandemic better than democracies. If they can't even do that, what's the use of centrally concentrating all the power? " india failing with the pandemic control resulting in more damages to our economy and international standing has been playing out for weeks now." - I agree. India's Economy has been damaged (structural story remains intact though) and the International standing has slide lower, but we are talking about decades, not weeks. Being myopic to look at the current situation doesn't suit well to long term strategic views. " the presence of an ever increasing number of people reflecting a country's power does not hold up now and will play a decreasing role in the future. " - Probably not. But it has benefits which an artificially controlled population doesn't. And I think you are discounting those benefits a little too much because of advances in technology. "Have been hearing of the end of China's export led growth for a decade and more. Haven't seen any signs though." - The signs are pretty clear. And have been so for quiet sometime. I am not sure how you don't see it. "Had seen videos of China's ghost cities and then also later saw the same ones after being occupied." - The current size of China's unoccupied housing capacity is 200 million. That's how many people those empty buildings can house. Which are the ones you saw getting occupied? "I am sure there are lot of issues with china and the opaque nature of it governance hiding possible ills till they burst out. But at the moment they are going strong." - These are contradictory statements though. You can their opaque nature hides possible ills they they burst out. And at the same time you are sure they are going strong. How do you even know that since they are so opaque? You seem to give A+ to China with all their problems which are much bigger in size when compared to India. You seem to be convinced Chinese Economy will keep growing and Chinese will have better social infrastructure cause they will be able to afford it. And somehow China will be able to do it but India won't. You are overestimating the China, both wrt to India and US alike.
