  6. I went through a divorce in '98. My ex and I negotiated our settlement. My Dad, a very fair man, wrote out the settlement. She got the house, I got my 5% land holdings. We agreed no alimony, since we both had Computer Sci degrees and could both work. Child support was fixed at $200 /month. She ended up getting custody since I knew the judge would grant it to her anyway. She had to go to work to make the house payments. I just smiled. She was ready to be an unhappy person and a workaholic. She literally set up her computer in the living room! She never did refi the house even though its interest rate sucked, so she missed out on all the great rates. She is now a very unhappy person facing retirement, alone, despised by my boys, and too depressed to even open her mail! She reads bodice-ripper trash romance novels now. She has quite a collection of them. She takes drugs to escape her life, she is now a methadone addict. I am so glad to be out of her life! I tried hard to change her and make her happy and it was absolutely impossible.
