I change my 2002 Yaris every year, regardless at 4,000 miles.Owned it for 13 yrs now and never had an issue at all.Quiet as a church mouse and smooth a silk still.

@davepaturno4290 I do no more than 3,000 miles a year but i change my oil & filter every year NOT 6 months for many, many years on just one car i've owned for 14yrs with no issues at all. Just use decent oil, never cheap oil. But inside the engine clean? I used FORTE engine flush which is v.good on my Yaris 1.3L 4speed auto when i first got it in 2008. I used Castrol Magnatec (Full Synth) for the last of 7 yrs of the 14yrs i owned it (Now sold) 2yrs of AC Delco (Semi Synth) & 4yrs at a garage, the rest unsure as this was many years ago BUT using cheap oil don't help year on year of changing. JUST REMEMBER when the oil is nearly finished dripping empty pour in some fresh new oil to rinse away any old oil sitting on bottom of the pan. Just like the kitchen sink at home the bottom will be dirty & needs to be washed away! Don't abuse the engine ie Rev it high a lot, drive fast as i looked after my 2002 Yaris that 3yrs after i sold my car it still drives sweet! I still talk to the new owner still to this day.....he loves it,can't believe how good it is.

@Amd. Question, when an engine reached say 100,000miles do you recommend a thicker oil? I now use 5w20 instead of as recommended 0w20 on my 2015 Yaris 1.3L here in the UK. Thanks.
