There is no timeframe, or intent that defines one or the other.
If you leave your country, and you are not on vacation at the new country, your are an immigrant.
Yes...the incorrect use of tbe word expat is now almost synonymous of Foreigners.
But the root was....I'm superior to you, I'm in denial that I had to leave, I want to stay in a bubble, etc.
I was born in the US......
I have lived in Canada, Caribbean, Philippines, Korea, Germany , all US time zones......never once identified myself as an expat.
