  1. I moved to Tokyo from Fort Walton Beach Florida. Cost of living is now 50% less than my life in Florida and I travel more, go out more, shop more, eat out more.

  2. Cost of living is low, so it’s relative. You can make 3 times the amount in California, but your housing, vehicle, insurance and daily expenses will leave you less in the pocket than in Japan.

  5.  @uhohotdog3483  The beach was a let down. Beyond beautiful; actual powder white sand, Crab Island, etc. But I also lived in Destin , waterfront studio, and didn’t go to the beach. To me it’s just a gorgeous coastline. For me to call it a beach it would need lots of 🌴, music, on site eateries, etc. Emerald Coast is nice and quiet, but very empty for what I’m used to.

  9. I’m paying a third of what a restaurant meal costs me in the US. I lived in 8 States, last 5 being TX, WY, CO, CA, FL and a meal for 5 at a restaurant would average $250-$350. I have not paid more than $150 in Japan at same/better quality restaurants.

  10. @Djl472 In the US they are now starting at 18% tip even if you are picking your own food. It’s out of control.

  11.  @oldtwinsna8347  I feel bad not tipping in Japan because these folks go out of their way to make sure you have a great meal. If anyone deserves a tip, is the service provided in Japan regardless of what type of establishments. S. Korea customer service also very similar to Japan during the year I lived there.
