  1. I moved from CA to FL after living in CA for 2 years. I thought I was going to save big, but realized that nothing changed. I was paying the same as in CA . Left FL after 18 months, now in Tokyo with a cost of living half of Florida’s. Should’ve done this years ago.

  3. I lived in cold and hot places. WY, TX, FL, Canada, CA. I realized the perfect weather is the one that has all 4 seasons, and well balanced. Because of this I now live in Tokyo

  5. I just left Florida because the State definitely did not plan for their growth. Most areas only have one road to go in or out, and traffic is unbearable.

  6.  @mkaberli  I was clueless, lol. The only thing cheaper was gas. CA was $5 when I left and FL was $3.09. But in CA I only had to fill the tank once a week, and in FL it was twice a week. So it cost more in FL. I moved from Vacaville CA to Fort Walton Beach FL.

  7. Good for you in escaping FL. CO is my favorite State. Lived in Cheyenne WY for 6 years but actually spent more time in CO.

  8.  @zacharysmith880  This is completely backed by data. It has been known for decades that these places are terrible. People always use politics to point out why, but in reality there are many non-political factors that are the true reasons for the poor conditions of these States.

  9.  @afrahnawarsidd  We ended up moving to Tokyo Japan, lol. Cost of living is about 40% cheaper than FL, maybe more. We lived in Fort Walton Beach. Kids are thriving here . Got here in July.

  17.  @seveglider8406  Problem is that people go to Orlando and Miami for vacation and think that the entire State is like that. Same happens with the tiny Island of Manhattan, people think NY State is like Manhattan, and Manhattan is only a fifth of NYC.

  18.  @boondoggle4820  My Wife and I both have a military retirement pension, so it’s very easy for us to live anywhere. But I do know a lot of Americans that have jobs here in Tokyo either with a local employer or with the US Government. And they don’t want to ever leave . The quality of life here and the culture are the perfect fit for me.

  20.  @Disgruntled-chichi401  I moved out already, 😂 Lasted 18 months. I realized I needed seasons, less crazy people, and some variation in topography. The flat lands drove me crazy. I moved to Tokyo 3 months ago and now my cost of living is 50% less than in FL. And I’m traveling and going out 90% more than what I did in the FL Panhandle.

  22. California is worth the price. You would only realize it if you move there (not if you are a local). I lived in Vacaville 2020-2022, and it was an eye opener. Very nice are to live, and close to everything.

  23.  @DonMachado  I’m from Manhattan so never in my life I ever planned to live in CA. Moved there after being in WY for 6 years, and it felt like if I was born again. Lived there for almost 2 years. Spent a lot of time in Napa, Walnut Creek, Sac for a few things. And of course Tahoe, Sequoia National, SF, SJ, Pismo. My favorite trip though was a weekend at the Redwoods. Speechless.

  25.  @dngrwllrbnsn_  I have lived in 🇩🇪 🇨🇦🇰🇷 🇵🇭 🇵🇷 🇯🇵. Also in 8 different States in the US. I stopped believing that US was the best Country since 1998. It was my first exposure to the outside world (Europe), and I then realized our US culture was about 250 years behind in becoming a functional civil society.

  28.  @bobmumphy3548  Sure 😂 Then they will be trapped there🤣 My family and relatives live in Tampa, Orlando and Miami. Those areas are fine and offer a real FL life. I made the mistake of moving to the Panhandle not knowing it wasn’t Florida-like.

I thought I was going to save so much going from one extreme to the other. Same job position same company. My pay went down 26% because of location. Monthly bills went up (insurance and electricity higher in FL) Cost of things and food was same as in CA. Gas was cheaper in FL but commute time and distance to places was greater than in CA, so my monthly gas usage was more than in CA. House payment in CA was $2700 vs $1800 in FL. But the amount saved was eaten by the lesser pay and higher cost of living. I finally had enough of the bad decision I made in moving, and now I’m in Western Tokyo, at 50% cost of living of what I was spending in FL. Still same job same company.

  36.  @justme-ti1rh  Didn’t lose any freedom. Other than not having to sell my Toyota Sequoia . But the transportation system here is massive and takes you anywhere for cheap. I think I gained way more freedom and peace of mind now. Kids can go anywhere without me having to worry about anything. Lower cost of living equals way more money for travel.

  41.  @Thewatcherinthering336  Please Read all the comments before posting . I gave specific examples. I moved from Vacaville CA to the Fort Walton Beach FL area. Cost of living was the same as CA, but without any amenities. At least in CA you can see why things are expensive. But in FL it made no sense to live with CA prices and nothing to justify the costs.

  46. I tried Wyoming, and nope. Had to go to Colorado to get all my food, clothes, entertainment, the airport, skiing, hiking, etc. Would’ve been cheaper to just live in CO.
