  25. When I worked at West Point in NY, I lived at an apartment complex in which I was the only car leaving the parking lot in the mornings to go to work. I would come home from work, and all the cars were still there....lol. My across the hall neighbor received Section 8, free utilities, free cable tv, WIC, food assistance, and $500 on a debit card every month. I had a full time Federal Government job, and this guy made way more than me by staying home.

Population is 60k, and closest town is 30 minutes away in another State....CO. Nearest town in state is Laramie, 45 minute drive......no towns , houses, or life in between. We are trapped.....lol. Thats why the covid shutdown is meaningless here......life has not changed here other than a few folks with masks.

Stopped there for gas, and the rest of the trip was the most depressing scenery I’ve seen in my life. Once I hit Pensacola and went over the bridge to road 98, things got pretty again.

We tried to retire in WY for the tax benefits, but going to CO for everything ate up any savings, so we took a year sabbatical in Napa. That was dreamy , but unrealistic in the long run. Bought a new house in Nicevile Florida, and that area is as isolated as WY, but with the opposite weather, which is also bad.😂 Just moved to Tokyo, so far cost of living is 50% cheaper than Florida, and unlimited amenities. Super happpy!

If they didn't tax retirement....I would've moved there a long time ago. But I think I'm spending whatever Im saving on retirement income tax , on gas anyway. These "people" chose profits over their own employees, the community, and the Country. These Corporations provided good salaries, good pensions, good health plans. Drug dealing, underage drinking, running IV bags to flush the system, etc etc. Isolated, place, nothing to do, long cold winters, can have negative effects in those young Airmen. Very sad to witness.

So many RV camps in the desert. So much bulk trash along miles and miles of roads. Saw the aircraft cemetery (stayed at Edwards AFB). Very sad.

When I can drive 2 hours the opposite way and have it all? Cheyenne had 100mph winds a week or 2 ago....lol I know the feeling.

Closest Mountains is Medicine Bow, which is like the north edge of the Rockies. I go to the Rocky Mountains via Estes Park in Colorado.

Our relatives are spread out all over the globe...Canada, Caribbean, Philippines, Singapore, Europe. And in 12 states in the US. So having an airport to travel and to pick up visitors is a necessity. Cheyenne doesn't have an airport, and when it does, it's only 1 daily flight, and super expensive. We have to use Denver Airport.....and that ride up and down I25 gets old fast. Picking/dropping someone is at least a 5 hour ordeal.

I live in Cheyenne Wyoming and home prices in those places mentioned are exactly the same as here....$400k for a 4br house. Both states have no income tax. The big difference is that one state has normal living, the other is like living in Mars. Im also looking into FL...the north half of FL.....just struggling with the issue of heat, mosquitoes and hurricanes. I have lived in San Antonio TX and in Puerto Rico....so not a new environment for me. PNW has a more pleasant weather....only concern is if the rain will make me depressed. I've been in WY 6 years, and the weather here has killed my soul about 4 times over.

Somehow there is way more money in my bank account at the end of the month, and I’m doing way more traveling and eating out than when I was in the isolated area of Destin/FWB. When I was in Cheyenne I had to go to Colorado for everything other than milk/bread/eggs. So it was more expensive to live in WY compared to if I had just moved to Ft Collins and paid higher taxes. Crazy!

Property taxes are low....like $100 a month for a $300k house. In my case....all my needs are in CO.....so all my purchases are in CO sales tax. Winter in WY is brutal.....it snows sideways.....and the wind here in Cheyenne is challenging most of the year. Front range Colorado winter is milder than WY. I have no idea how it is West of the Rockies.

The numbers look good for politics ....but the reality is people working hard to still be poor. Before becoming President, Trump criticized a lot the formula used to calculate unemployment and also said that the stock market was a big bubble. 2019...We are still using the same formulas.

They stay in power by creating the illusion of 2 Parties. Sadly, the masses of this country buy into it, to the point where they believe their Team is the “good” Team. For example, I lived in Wyoming 2014-2020......and when the chicken sandwich fad came out......my closest Popeyes was 1 hour 15 minute drive in Colorado. I did that almost 3 hour round trip like 5 times solo. (Did buy it many other times if I was already in CO). Now I live a 4 minute Walk away from a Popeyes....and only been there twice.

  560.    If only that were true. Plenty of evidence and research showing that for the last 50 years wages have not kept up at all with cost of living increases. In that time period housing costs have increased 1000%, education 2500%, plus food, utilities, childcare, etc etc etc. Wages went up 10%

Then the US moved the border after the Mex-USA war, and the Mexicans north of the Rio Grande were now in the US. The same can be said about the US. Stolen land, broken treaties. At least the Natives in Mexico are integrated into society, unlike in the US, where they are practically in an open air prison.

  582.  @wametcalf  I visited for the first and only time back in 2018. Stayed at Tree House point for a couple of days....then at Bellevue for 5 days. Did a lot of driving and exploring....and liked everything I saw. I'm originally from Manhattan, currently living in Wyoming......so any place would be definitely better than my current situation....lol.

  583.  Stand up to the Internet Bullies  I lived in San Antonio TX for 8 years. Great place, but allergies from mountain cedar hit me hard every season. Cost of living is super cheap, and house prices are very low. I had 2 brand new houses there that I ended up selling when I was living in Germany.

  587. Techniques you develop over time....lol I remember sharing an office with someone who would blast Marylin Manson all day. I was able to block the music entirely and work as if I was alone in the office....lol I have lived in NYC, Korea, Philippines, Puerto Rico, San Antonio, Europe....never felt crowded to me.
