Yes....Columbus was Italian....but the Crown of Spain was who financed his voyages. So all he did was for Spain.

Juan Ponce de Leon, a Spaniard from Puerto Rico discovered and named Florida in 1521. Also named and founded the city of St Augustine in Florida.

The funny thing is how the US always renames things. Christopher Columbus does not exist. You can't just change people's names...lol

Puerto Rico was under Spain longer than other territory of Spain. Columbus got there in 1493...his 2nd trip. In 1898 Puerto Rico passed from Colony of Spain to colony of the US...to this date. It's the oldest colony in the World

@Deadly Vibez Puerto Rico was part of Spain. He explored FL after being Governor of Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico has never had a legal nationality.....ever......so saying a Spaniard from PR is technically correct.

@lissandrafreljord7913 The point I was referring to is the USA just renaming people and countries and things for no reason. Like I'm surprised they never renamed Juan Ponce de Leon..... ..... to John Punch the Lion.
