There is no real system. Just a lottery and some other humanitarian options. Which is why there is a large number of illegals. Overstayed visas is the highest, then border crossings.

Technically, if you are not Native American or Mexican, then you are an immigrant, since those 2 groups inhabited the land before any Scandinavian, Spanish, Dutch, or British ship touched our shores. Again......technically/historically.

vaga bonder For Mexicans.....I meant the Natives. Before borders were set.

vaga bonder Yes...the Natives from the other side of the border. Oltec, Aztecs, etc

vaga bonder And Mexicans were on current US land before the US. California, Arizona, Nevada, Texas, New Mexico. Colorado, and even Utah.

vaga bonder Correct....Spain....then Mexico. Spain did not populate the entire land of Mexico with people from Spain. It was Mexicans. When Mexico gained independence, the same Mexicans stayed there, until the land was stolen by the US.

vaga bonder The Natives are today's Mexicans. There are still indigenous people in Mexico. So Natives, then Spain, then Mexicans. Then the US moved the border after the Mex-USA war, and the Mexicans north of the Rio Grande were now in the US. The same can be said about the US. Stolen land, broken treaties. At least the Natives in Mexico are integrated into society, unlike in the US, where they are practically in an open air prison.

vaga bonder I'm not confusing the 2. There were Indigenous People on both sides of the modern border. The previous border included 7 US States.....that were under dominion of Spain, and then Mexico when they gained independence.

vaga bonder It still doesn't change the chain of events. Indigenous, Spain, Mexico, USA.

vaga bonder My claim is that Mexicans were there before the US expansion to the West. And had been there for hundreds of years.......Mestizos, Europeans, Indigenous. The land wasn't empty. People lived there. The US murdered its way to the Pacific.

vaga bonder You are correct, I should've clarified on my original post that I was referring to Natives in what today is Mexico......and not just write Mexicans, since the region wasn't officially named like that until the late 1500's.
