@solusgamer164 Trump's deadline was May 1 2021...if conditions met, which they had at the moment. Trump writes a letter asking Biden to not delay much longer the withdrawal (Apr 2021) The unexpected event was the total surrender of the Afghan Army, and abandonment by the President of Afghanistan.

We returned Afghanistan to the Taliban on February 28, 2020. Full departure by May 1 2021. I don't understand why people "act" surprised.

@debrasanders1985 These are just facts. It's what took place. Don't need to be believed. Even the Afghan army and the President gave up completely. Only locals that didn't give up are the Northern Alliance folks.

@marcusarmenius2908 People had 18 months to leave. The industries that have US government contracts in Afghanistan could've closed operations months ago, and send those workers back to the US. Trump had already downsized the military footprint to the minimum necessary to complete the withdrawal. But no........contractors had to keep milking the cash cow until the very last second, then leave everyone at the mercy of the State Dept.

@historyandhorseplaying7374 I was referring to the companies, not the workers. On top of ghost employees and subcontracts, the companies didn't take care of their real employees. Had 18 months to plan closing of operations, send people home. I know a few folks that worked at Bagram. Once Bagram closed, they ended up in Kabul on standby, or in Qatar which had just received a surge of troops assisting the evacuations.

@historyandhorseplaying7374 I didn't blame the workers. Again, blaming the companies who banked on the military contracts for 20 years. When it was time to go, as agreed in Feb 2020, they didn't plan/move. Probably thought Biden was going to overturn Trump and add 20 more years of cash cow. BTW, same here, Wife and I went to that area 5 times combined. But Air Force, so way easier than the other Branches experiences there.
