@vanlao6367 It has nothing to do with anyone in PR. 100% in hands of US Congress.
8
It's not a dispute. US Congress has never discussed it in 123 years.
6
@MultiBotijas Became a territory in 1898. 1917 Jones Act granted US citizenship. 1940 Nationality Act made being born in PR equal to being born on US mainland. 1917 can be taken away. 1940 can not. Big difference.
5
Don't need a passport to do that.
4
1917 granted. Since 1940 by birthright.

@gnirolnamlerf593 The issue is that the lobbyists for Statehood really do not want Statehood. They only use the status issue to win local elections in PR. Making people believe they will work towards Statehood. But reality is that if these lobbyists/politicians were serious, they wouldve been lobbying for Incorporation, which is step 1, for a real path to Statehood. This has never been done.
3
This is the only solution. But Congress has never offered this once, in 123 years.
3
PR is ultra conservative
3
The other way around. UK owns the US.
3
@radrook2153 They are not at it. USA has never taken a single step towards a resolution. Only the Puerto Rico side has had the meaningless infighting for decades.
2
@jessica2575 Unincorporated Territory means Natural Resources. That's why everything PR is managed by this committee in Congress.
2
@Steve-zc9ht None of those were valid. US Congress has never entertained the idea of changing the Status of PR.
2
Answer.......NO. Next question.
2
Robby Dey There has been zero votes. Only Congress can vote on it, and has not done it in 123 years
2
Taiwan would become a State before PR ever does.
2
This vote was not valid. And no votes have ever been valid. US Congress does not need a vote in PR to decide what to do with PR.
2
@willam779 I'm PuertoRican. I only shared what is written in the US Constitution.
2
@greenmachine5600 Ok Lol
2
@Steve-zc9ht True.
2
@willam779 Not sure what your comment means. But what I wrote is 100% accurate. 1917 Jones Act granted US citizenship to PR. 1940 Nationality Act made being born in Puerto Rico, equal to being born on US mainland soil. Birthright citizenship.
1
@Steve-zc9ht Correct. I only added that all those referendums had zero meaning.
1
@jtbui2010 Exactly. Currently the mainland is the one draining the resources from PR. US will not let that gravy train until its all consumed
1
Birthright citizenship since 1940. Not 1917.
1
Puerto Ricans are US citizens by birthright. Not "legally considered".
1
It is absolutely not the decision of Puerto Rico. US Constitution dictates its 100% up to US Congress.
1
@Steve-zc9ht I'm not referring to ancestry......but obviously the 1776 crowd was mostly from the UK. I'm referring to control/influence. The Anglo/saxon platform is rooted in the UK.
1
@Steve-zc9ht It's a bad situation. At least as sovereign Islands, they could at least negotiate trade agreements with other countries . But as a quasi colony, they are all tied to the US, and to the high cost Merchant Marine. People are usually more comfortable with status quo. So any changes to either Statehood or Sovereignty, will always cause uncertainty in the minds of folks.
