I worked in the pharmaceutical industry from 2002-2014 and witnessed this entire epidemic skyrocket. The main issue with this is that oxy kept being promoted as an extremely low addiction pain killer..meanwhile Purdue knew all along they were lying.

@Sho Yu Weeni They did....all out now in the discovery of the lawsuit. But hey....even Purdue and the Sacklers need friends to defend them. Good for you!

@PicaPauDiablo1 In pharmacy we don't have control. Someone walks in with a prescription....we just ensure allergies and fda limits according to scheduled category. But if we don't fill the prescription, the patient can just get it anywhere else. The problem is really at the prescribing level and marketing. Which is the most current findings in the Massachusetts court case that Purdue wants shut down. The MA case opened up even more damaging info than what has been known since 2007.

I have shared Court documents in the past, and people still stay in denial. Links do not work. I never received links...I just happened to work in the industry.

In 2018...Kermit West Virginia was in every news outlet because of an investigation that revealed that over 20 million scheduled 2-3 pulls were sold in just 2 pharmacies ....in a town of 3000 people.

One problem I always encountered is that pharmacies in our country are not networked at a national level. Heck...I worked in an Air Force pharmacy and it wasn't even networked to the Veteran Administration hospital network. Makes it impossible to track history of medications within the same city. Imagine the problem if expanded to state level and nationally. It's a massive problem.

@bobbyhall7472 Yes. But in a for profit system, that didn’t cross communicate , a patient would just go to the next pharmacy over. We established our own internal system to identify abusers and deny services. But this was not adopted even at City level. So people just went to the next place that serviced them. Our medical IT system is still broken
