First time I landed in Miami Airport, I thought I was in a different country. Everyone was speaking Spanish!!!!

@4uFriday I lived in San Antonio for 8 years. It wasn't as shocking as my 1st minutes in Miami.....lol. And I speak English, Spanish, Tagalog....so I'm not criticizing. It was just unexpected. Felt as I had landed in San Juan.

@donnelladams8362 Florida was a territory of Spain, before any of the 13 US colonies existed. Thats also why Spanish is common

@4uFriday Kind of culture shock, although I speak the language.

@Mike Hunt Lol Has nothing to do with politics. Florida belonged to Spain before the Mayflower was even built.
5
@dogbsas I have no issues with the language, I speak 3 languages. It was just completely unexpected to me to get off the plane and hear 100% Spanish as I was walking throughout the terminal. It was exactly the same as if I had landed in San Juan

Florida was a Spanish settlement before the Mayflower was even built. A Governor from Puerto Rico called Juan Ponce de Leon named it and established St Augustine.

Any city in Europe is better than all USA. Only Boston and NYC would hace a competing chance.

First non Native settler came from Puerto Rico..... Juan Ponce de Leon.

@hiphipjorge5755 I lived in San Antonio....yes....bilingual.....but like with a mostly English ratio. I live in Napa now, and this North Bay area is bilingual....but English and Tagalog.

@edcarlopantastico9347 I lived in PR for 15 years. I married a Filipina 16 years ago.

@christopherhennessey8991 Always nice to be multilingual. English is my main language, but I moved to Puerto Rico and lived there for 15 years. Never used English there, other than some school/university courses, so Spanish became my dominant language. Then moved back to the States and everything reversed...lol. Later married, Wife is from NJ, but Filipina, so I learned Tagalog.

@VikCalo Nope. I wasn't expecting the Airport halls to sound 100% like San Juan, Puerto Rico. But I was glad it did!!!!!!!

In Miami again today....no 100% Spanish at the airport this time. It was only 10%.
1
@ArisB21 Nope. If you read the context, you would understand better. Hablo Español, pero no tenía la expectativa de que iba a escuchar la misma cantidad de Español que hubiese escuchado si el avión hubiera aterrizado en San Juan.

@kvietimas My OP was meant to be super positive. The US is extremely boring, so having places like Miami are a blessing.
1
@kvietimas Lol Blessing to the Country. Otherwise we would all be Wyoming.

Miami will become the Venice of the USA

@thedirtybubble9613 Ft Lauderdale might dissappear, and Miami will take its place.
