Nobody is going to sell a low rate mortgage to buy a new house at 7% and double your mortgage payment.

@mg-by7uu True. I’m listing my house soon that I just had built in March 2022. At 2.69%. It’s in Nicevile Florida. I moved here to retire, but the Florida panhandle is incredibly boring and isolated. Moving to Japan in June.

@jake_of_the_jungle9840 ‘Muricans don’t even have $500 for emergencies.

@shilpabalaji8692 But if nobody can afford to buy a house at 7%, then only the big hedge fund firms will keep buying them.

@StarScreamReee Both of those are good. I lived in SA 10 years. This area of the FL Panhandle is more like living in Alabama, and opposite of lifestyle in the Real FL (Tampa, Orlando, Miami). I will be way more comfortable in Japan than here. I’ve lived in 5 other countries before, and the experience had always been superior than life in the US. Japan will be epic.

@jicalzad Moving to Japan, then Spain and Philippines. House is nice, but pointless if it’s in the wrong place. I’m not buying again in the US in at least 5 years, so I’m good. The hobbies I do do not exist here in the Panhandle. My Spouse and kids also dislike the place. This area is incredibly isolated. I thought it would be good for retirement, but there isn’t really much to do here. I had more options when I lived in Cheyenne because all the Colorado amenities were within 2 hours. Here I have to drive 5-7 hours for anything similar.

@brucetec6597 Thanks. The person that secured me the house a year ago when I bought while still living in Napa, will be the seller when I move to Japan.

@JuliusG73 The interest rate has to drop. That’s the artificially created issue.
1
@JuliusG73 The interest rate has to drop because it was raised specifically to stop the housing market. That’s what Powell said himself. It’s not a permanent policy.
1
@JuliusG73 Because it’s better to let the market decide that.
1
@JuliusG73 If the market decides it will be 3% again, just how it was before Powell hiked it up to 7. Banksters are going to Bankster. We lose either way. Powell wanted to stop the housing market and he did. He publicly announced his intent word for word. Clear. Only ones benefiting are the Hedge funds buying sub divisions for rental purposes.
