I moved to Tokyo a few months ago and the train system here is as perfect as it can get. This includes the civilized passengers riding the train, clean, quiet, nobody is talking on their phones, etc.

@shasmi93 100% my exact thoughts. It will never work in a place that does not follow civil society standards. I also lived near Seoul and the train system is also super efficient.

Civil society has nothing to do with the composition of the people of a place. It has to do with the individuals being decent human beings and respecting shared common spaces.

@petermonaghan3738 Very true. I also lived in Germany and they do have a well balanced of transit. Rail and light rail are common and easy to get to. They DO have a car culture, with no speed limits on many portions of the Autobahn. And they also have a huge bicycle culture. And they also walk a lot. Yes they can coexist.

@ In the beginning the only difficulty is finding the right exit out of a train station and some train transfers can be tricky. But it all becomes easier after a few months.
