Work from home makes sense for some workers, but there were far too many abuses for it to continue. I know colleagues who took on a second full-time job while working from home and did the bare minimum at their first job so they could pull in two salaries. It was a sweet con for as long as it lasted, but it's over now.

You're being treated shabbily, Peter, by a government that cares about illegal migrants and Ukraine more than it does for its own people. For what it's worth, I appreciate all the workers who kept the wheels moving during the pandemic, and still do appreciate you.

I did, too, but many of my colleagues did not. A fair number of them took second jobs and did just enough in their first jobs to make it appear as if they were still meeting their responsibilities. I also had neighbors who didn't pay rent for two years running, even though they could've, taking advantage of the eviction moratoriums.

@glennbignell Rest of us were going above and beyond. A man's got to have a code and mine is that you do the most you can in any situation.

@markmak7548 My neighbors worked from home and were doing quite well, until their meth lab exploded. Bit of a setback.

@sdrawkcabUK Fair point.

@PhilipMarcYT I like the idea of remote work if it's properly structured. It's not for everybody.

@NothingButAPeanut Yeah, those are all good points, but bad workers get away with a lot more with remote work. Part of this is management not knowing how to properly supervise, train, and motivate remote workers. In my experience, people get promoted to management because they're sycophants to the bosses, not because they're competent or intelligent.
