I taught for 32 years. Spent an average of $1500 a year of my own money on supplies, and no, you don't get reimbursed via a tax credit. School districts doubled or even tripled the amount of district bureaucrats during the arc of my career and none of those people ever had face-to-face contact with a student. Meanwhile, most of the schools where I taught were literally falling down for lack of maintenance. And voters turned down one tax measure after another to fund our schools, even though most of these proposed taxes would've literally cost 25 cents A DAY in higher taxes.

I was a teacher for 32 years. Spent an average of $1500 a year of my own money on classroom supplies. I never would've gotten on the floor like those folks did in South Dakota to scoop up cash. Who in their right mind, possessing one ounce of dignity, would've agreed to humiliate themselves for a few bucks?
