United isn't the only company that doesn't give a damn about its customers. I once stayed in a Marriott hotel and there was a wild party in the next suite that went on until 2 am When I complained, management told me that the person throwing the party was an exec for the Marriott Corporation, so there was nothing they could do! I called the police and they calmed the party down, but the next day, I was told they expected me to check out that day at 11 am, even though I'd booked for the entire week. That was years ago. It's worse now. At least Marriott didn't have me beaten up.

Doesn't work that way in the European democracies or Canada. Are they better humans than us or do they just have a more sane and humane arrangement of their society? For God's sake don't extrapolate the feral response of people to savage American society and say "this is human nature". Bullshit it is.

Jimmy, for the last time: the flight was not overbooked. United wanted to kick four paying passengers off to board their crew. Which is even worse than if they overbooked.
