I've come to the conclusion that the Democratic Party has been so hopelessly co-opted that it's time to abandon the party. This conclusion came hard and slow for me, a lifelong Democrat who was proud to register and vote as a Democrat in a heavily "red" state when I was 18 years old. I can't throw any more money or time into a rat hole; before I die, I want to see actual progressives take the reins of this country and make a change. If we start now, and I take good care of myself, maybe I'll live to see it.
