I'm a retired librarian and also a retired teacher. When I was in school, we had "free reading time" and everyone had to have a book to read. Now, one out of every three days is devoted to either preparing for, or taking, standardized tests. Our public schools have crushed the spirit of our young people. I don't know if we can change our schools so that they're no longer test-taking holding pens, but we've got to try. Daisy: Never give up, never surrender!
