It appears your lady critic is striking not at you but at the shadow you cast. Shadows can be distorted by many things, most of all by biases and prejudices. Remember what Ernest Hemingway wrote about critics: "A critic is a person who watches a battle from a high place and then rides down and shoot the survivors."
