The only difference between Samantha and a lot of women is that Samantha demanded her husband's approval for her infidelity and wanted to do it in the open. Every married woman I know has a "backup guy"--she may not be sleeping with him right now, but she's ready to jump over to him if she gets bored with her husband or if the other guy (or guys) can offer a better deal. I'm not being cynical, you guys, just reporting what I've observed. I've had married women try to make ME into the "backup guy", so this is a real thing. If your woman hasn't cheated on you, it's only a matter of time. Odds are she's already having an emotional affair with a "we're just good friends" guy.
