  1. I retired early because I was at the point where every salary increase was just going to make my landlord richer. I worked for 43 years--73% of my life so far--and was told that older white guys like me are the problem. I paid my taxes, I showed up for work every day, worked my butt off, rarely took a sick day (not unless I was deathly ill), and at the end of all that, I was a "problem" by virtue of my age, race, and gender. As my dad used to say: "Find out where you're not wanted, and then don't go there."

  2. I know lots of guys who work but don't have official employment. Time is more important than money to them since they don't have the financial burdens our fathers and grandfathers had, so they do flexible jobs for cash. My neighbor pays the landlord in $20 bills on the first of every month--doesn't even have a bank account. Men are becoming stealth bombers.

  3. You should try the Philippines. Warm weather, friendly people, beautiful women, low COL, and they speak English.
