Arredondo spoke like that because he was petrified with fear. You can hear it in his voice. That tough guy facade crumbled as soon as he was faced with real danger.

@milesjohnson5827 Young man, my father was a combat veteran of the Korean War. I'm a combat vet and my nephew is currently serving as a Navy SEAL. My best friend is a retired Marine. You won't make it past boot camp with that attitude: it's not about YOUR safety, it's about protecting lives and working as part of a team. Marines move as a team and go TOWARDS danger, not away from it. Take my advice and forget about being a Marine. Join the police instead. You'll be perfect for it.

There were 376 cops on scene: local, state, federal. They all just stood there while this shooter murdered kids. The problem is cop culture: OFFICER SAFETY FIRST. That's what they teach from day one and the courts back them up on it. Cops have no legal obligation and feel no moral obligation to protect our lives. Uvalde is the starkest example of this but you can see it in police interactions with citizens every day, in every city. Unless and until we change the requirements so that the police do have a duty to put OUR lives and safety BEFORE theirs, NOTHING is going to change. You're going to do what? Fire all 376 cops on scene? And replace them with the exact same type of people operating inside the exact same OFFICER SAFETY FIRST culture? Waste of time.

@milesjohnson5827 You're 14 years old and you're lecturing us? What do you know about anything? I've been in combat. You have no idea what you're talking about, kid. Go join up with the cops when you're old enough. With your cowardly personality, you'll be a perfect fit.
