  2. Love how we, the unarmed public, are tasked with the job of de-escalating encounters with cops so the cops don't beat us or kill us. Seems a bit backwards to me: shouldn't the armed, professional law enforcement officers be the ones burdened with de-escalation?

  3. I had a similar experience with an out of control Kansas state trooper in the 1980s. He almost caused a serious accident by cutting off my car, forcing me over to the side of the road, and then dragged me out of the car and threatened to beat me up. When confronted in court, the trooper said he had no memory of the incident and his partner said he was looking in another direction the entire time and witnessed nothing of the encounter (yes, they lied under oath). My offense? I flashed my headlights at a motorist traveling in the opposite direction to let him know that he had his high beams on. This triggered the state trooper for some reason. We didn't have dash cams etc back then, of course. But I have one in my car now and it stays ON. It's the only way we can protect ourselves from cops like this. I've lost all trust in the police because of that incident. It seems many of them are angry and on a hair trigger, a dangerous combination given that they have near-absolute authority (and loaded guns) in our society.
