I lived next to a mini-mansion in Beverly Hills for five years. Hosted way too many guests too often for city regulations, but I let it go as long as they kept relatively quiet. Then the guests' behavior got worse and I ratted them out to the city. I did NOT pay rent to live next door to a hotel! The owner had to sell the house because AirBnB was how she was paying the mortgage. A common trick to get around local regulations about how many days a property can be available is to not give the exact location and to switch hosts, so that enforcement officials searching the listings won't find the exact same listing every time. AirBnB should NEVER have been allowed to take root in our cities. I hope it goes bankrupt and disappears. People buy houses in neighborhoods with the specific intention of turning them into hotels--it's running a business in a residential neighborhood. But AirBnB spread the bribes--er, I mean campaign contributions--around to the right officials, so they were given a license to do this. I always predicted their business model would collapse sooner or later. Maybe this recession will have a few positives, like killing this crap business once and for all.
