When I lived in Beverly Hills, the snobby Englishwoman next door to my building decided to turn the lower half of her mansion into an AirBnB. What resulted was strange people creeping around at all hours of the day and night, trash thrown over our fence, cars parked in reserved spaces, etc. Beverly Hills has restrictions on AirBnB that this person tried to go around by not listing the exact address, but I busted her out to the city and she lost so much business operating under the restrictions that she shut the AirBnB down. Beverly Hills is unique in that a lot of city revenue comes from its high-end hotels, and those hoteliers pressured the city council into passing the restrictions; preserving the quality of life for its residents was never a consideration. I do NOT want to live next to a hotel. AirBnB should NEVER have been allowed ANYWHERE. Shut it down nationwide, now. It's got a large share of responsibility for the housing shortage and degrades both property values and the quality of life in any neighborhood that has one.

I had an AirBnB host leave a "to do" list for me to perform before I checked out--24 items in all. I stay in hotels now, use an app that gets me a free stay for every 10 bookings.

I would've checked out or thrown a thick towel over each one. No harm done, since they were "deactivated".

And you are part of the reason we have a shortage of long-term rentals and starter houses for sale. Do your neighbors know they rented or bought next to your fly-by-night hotels? And "super host", I've found, means very little.

I'm thinking arson fires are going to spike real soon.

As they should. Why should hotels have to compete with a bunch of amateurs who want to rent out a house? Hotels invest a lot of time and money into maintaining their facilities and training their staff.

Health and safety regulations--the courts defer to the government on those. AirBnB will lose. Is Uber a health and safety risk? Then it should be banned.
