I'm an American who grew up on a Kansas farm listening to country western music. Patriotism has always been a theme in that genre: "The Fightin' Side of Me" (Merle Haggard) "Ragged Old Flag" (Johnny Cash) "God Bless the USA" (Lee Greenwood) "Some Gave All" Billy Ray Cyrus "Arlington" (Trace Adkins) "In America" Charlie Daniels Band There's no room for the "blame America" crowd in country western--the fans and the artists are unapologetically "America first". Naturally, a certain demographic (rich white liberals and most Blacks) utterly loathe this music, the people who make it, and the people who listen to it--we're what Hillary Clinton called "the basket of deplorables". If you're British and want to understand American culture, you have to listen to country western music. Doesn't mean you have to approve of it, nor like it, but you can't understand us without understanding that music. And it just shows how out of touch our purported rulers are that they don't seem to know anything about the CW genre and its recurrent themes.
