If people whose ancestors owned slaves want to pay reparations out of their own pocket, I won't stop them. None of my ancestors as far back as I can trace my lineage on both sides of the family ever owned one single slave, so I will pay not one single penny for reparations. I can name four direct ancestors who fought and died in the US Civil War (1861-65) on the Union side, dying to end the evil of slavery in our country. Whatever my family owed to black folks, we paid in blood a long time ago. Imagine what black people could do if they studied hard in school, worked hard, and stopped seeing themselves as eternal victims. Eternal victimhood makes you a cripple, unable to account for your life and take charge of your destiny.

It's stoking the fires of racial division dangerously high. This won't end well.

I'm told by reparations advocates in the States that they would consider $5 million merely a down payment--they want a lifetime guaranteed income and periodic lump sums. As one told me: "$100 million wouldn't be enough. If white people gave me $1 billion, I'd say 'Where's the rest of it?'" I'm sure their demands are realistic and won't agitate the white majority in the slightest.

The Africans don't want them.

What if Simon pays you $5 million in reparations? Would that heal your significant injury?

It's a fantasy. $5 million for each black resident of San Francisco would be the equivalent of 75 years of the city's total operating budget. These people are mad.
