The UK needs to codify its constitution and bring it together in a single written document to make certain inalienable rights clearer. We Americans make frequent reference to ours and it's quite handy, especially the first six amendments. In the US, this arrest would have been a clear violation of the First Amendment, which provides that Congress make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting its free exercise. It protects freedom of speech, the press, assembly, and the right to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. I feel quite fortunate to live in a country founded by men of the Enlightenment.

No, I'm not so ignorant as to believe that the UK has no written constitution--it's just that the constitution is spread out amongst different documents written at different points in time. Having a constitutional convention and codifying everything into a single document would be a very healthy debate for the UK to have, because it'd force everybody to think about what kind of country they want. Of course, you'll amend it later--the US has done so twenty-seven times (but over 11,000 amendments were proposed, so it's more competitive than Britain's Got Talent).

@HistoryDebunkedsimonwebb It's as if George Orwell ingested psychedelic mushrooms and was then employed to write government policy.
