  2. I lived and worked in California for thirty years. The police have always struggled to control the criminal element there, and warned that changing the laws to virtually eliminate penalties for theft would unleash exactly what's happening now. I know many California liberals (all affluent and white), and they defend the looting as a form of reparations. Others are anarchists who know that this chaos is tearing apart our society and are cheering it on--think of it as the American version of Mao's Cultural Revolution. No society can thrive nor even survive the weight of mass lawlessness. Previous generations understood that unless people feel safe, the trust necessary for society to function will be destroyed.

  3. They didn't loot the Sikh-owned shops, did they? I remember the photos of Sikh merchants wielding their tulwars (curved swords). I was reminded of the words of Dr. John Watson: "The Sikh is no man to trifle with."

  4.  @davedogge2280  I've taught lots of Sikh students and have always been impressed by their strong extended families and sense of community--Sikhs also tend to be hard working and shrewd business people.
