I taught at a school that has a lot of students whose parents are big shots in the movie biz. Three things I learned: *Studio executives despise writers and can't tell a good script from a bad script. Most executives haven't read a book since college and think that a "good film" is 100% actors/directors/special effects/marketing. *Wokeness (diversity, equity, inclusion) is essential to getting funding for a film or tv project these days, whether you want it or not (most executives are entirely unprincipled and would promote cannibalism if it'd get their project greenlit). *Nepotism, always a problem in the industry, is out of control these days, with totally unqualified people getting jobs for which they're unprepared and/or unsuited because of family connections. I know of at least three former students who have written scripts for major film projects (that got produced!) whom I consider semi-literate at best. But daddy and mommy are Somebody, so Miss Somebody or Somebody Junior get the job and then bungle it. And no one gets fired. Ever. Does it all make sense now? It's not as bad as you thought. It's worse.
