  2. We had a student (high school) who tried to stab another girl in a hallway fight. One of my colleagues intervened and the girl stabbed him in the thigh. The girl tried to stab two police officers who showed up to arrest her but they disarmed her. The girl was suspended for the rest of the year and her mother sued the district, claiming they were denying the girl her right to an education. The district had to pay hundreds of thousands in a settlement and the girl was allowed to return to campus. Meanwhile, my colleague walks with a permanent limp. That's an extreme example but it reveals the mindset of most parents now: NO ONE disciplines their kids, not them, not teachers, no one.
