Something has definitely changed in the past five years. I'm 60 and was called a racist for the first time in my life three years ago. I served in the USAF and my best friend from my military days is a black guy named Art. Art and I went to college on the GI bill together after we got out of the service. I've worked most of my career in multiracial ("diverse") places like Oakland, San Francisco, Los Angeles, never any problems. And it's not older black folks who are saying this; it's always some kid in his or her twenties. Their explanation is that I was always racist and older black people didn't have the guts to tell me, and that since I'm white, I'm by default racist, because all white people are. In my life, I've seen overt racism recede from our society, and I was happy to see it again. It was always hurtful and divisive and denied good people a chance to prove themselves. But now it's come back, just directed at whites. Thomas Sowell said it best: “Racism does not have a good track record. It's been tried out for a long time and you'd think by now we'd want to put an end to it instead of putting it under new management."
